The Fluke Corporation makes several products geared toward network administration. One of these products is called Network Inspector (NI). NI monitors a network of computers and aids in troubleshooting network problems. To introduce NI, Fluke decided that they wanted a site that would allow people to either download a trial version of the software, or to purchase licenses and download a registered version of the software.

Before a person is able to download NI, Fluke wanted to be able to capture some information about who was downloading the software, as well as the network that the software would be installed on. This information would have several purposes including giving Fluke an idea of the size of organizations that were downloading the software.

Capturing information about the person and the organization's network meant a form to fill out and a short survey about the network. The user is asked for information such as company name, email address, etc. and the survey consists of questions such as "How many workstations are in your organization?" Also, if a person downloads the trial version, after the trial period, Fluke can contact the person to inquire about license purchasing, and based on the network information that the person provided, the Fluke representative would have a good idea of the number of licenses that the person might want.

If the person in downloading the trial version, this is the end of the road and that is left is to download the the software. If the person returns to purchase licenses for NI, the information that they entered the first time will be recalled based on the person's email address that is used to login to the site. That way, the person will not have to spend the time to fill out the form and survey a second time. However, the person is able to update the information if there have been changes.

If the person has gone the route to purchase licenses online, then that person moves on to the next step and must choose how many Consoles (server component) and Agents (client components) that s/he wants to purchase. A suggestion is provided based on the answers that the person gave to the network survey. After making a selection, the person can click a button the will calculate the price of the purchase. This price is displayed at the bottom of the window, which is in a separate frame.

After having selected the licenses to purchase, the person is required to provided credit card information to complete the transaction. The person's credit card is then verified and the person is allowed to download the software.
